- Nine years after founding the Sister Islands Association, Kim and Ela Esterberg realized a dream of spending an extended time on Ometepe. Kim wrote a journal, illustrated by Ela's drawings and watercolors and photographs they both took. We've reproduced part of their journal here, with thumbnails of the graphics to keep download time reasonable. To see the illustrations, just click on the thumbnails. The text and graphics are copyright © 1996 by Kim and Ela Esterberg. They may be accessed for reading and viewing but may not be stored or printed.
- In the Spring of 2004 Seattle Times writer Jake Batsel and photographer
Betty Udesen visited Bainbridge in preparation for a trip they were going to
make to Central America. They were planning an article on coffee and had heard
about the Sister Islands relationship. They helped bag coffee and attended a
meeting of the Association's board. Their article was eventually expanded to
four that were published in September 2004. You can read Jake's report and see
Betty's photographs in the Times archives at the links here:
- In Summer 2004 Kim and Ela Esterberg led a delegation of teachers from Seattle's Beacon Hill Elementry to visit their sister school, el Colegio Primario de Balgüe. Kim has created a photo album from the trip (free registration required).
