Roberto Alvarado, MD

He is a doctor originally from Managua, but he
has been living on Ometepe many many years. He likes to work and to give
his love for these people. He is member of Commission for Disabled
Children on the island.

This commission organizes a party for the
disabled children. He attends to all of the poor people (free
pay) and sometimes with free medicine for them.

Thelma Mairena

She lives in Balgüe and is a teacher at the Primary School there.
She is a very popular because she is another person who is very
active in the town development projects. Her husband is Luis
|
Jimenez and they live together near to her
mother's house (Doña Ines Mairena) She has two daughters. One is
in the University and the another is still studying in Balgüe
School. She likes projects to benefit the communities.
And she has many friends in Bainbridge Island and Seattle Beacon
Hill School.

Jorge Guillen Oconnor, MD

He lives with his family in La Concepcion (la concha) but he works in the Moyogalpa Hospital; he is a doctor. His first connection with Bainbridge was when Diane Jennings (now a BOSIA Board Member) |
came with a Medical Delegation from Washington. She stayed in his Mother's house. The BOISA connection is even closer now, because BOSIA Trustee Siri Kushner is married to Jorge's nephew, Hector and the couple make their home on Bainbridge Island.

Karla Saenz

She lives in Balgue and she is a teacher at the Madroñal Primary School. She and Leybi Lopez Menocal are the teachers at the Baluge Literacy Project at the Casa Comunal sponsored by Grace Episcopal Church. She
| has two beautiful daughters. Her husband is also a teacher. She and her family are friends with many people from Bainbridge. Her house is another home stay for the great friends from Bainbridge.

Marta Lorena Ruiz

She a nurse at the Health Center in Altagracia. She currently oversees the birthing center and has
| also worked in several communities around Ometepe, for example, Urbaite. She is a great nurse because she offers kindness to her patients. She is a single mother of two lovely daughers. She lives with her daughters and her mother in Altagracia. She is a good friend of visitors from Bainbridge. She graduated from the University with a degree in Public Health Nursing this spring, and is a professional Nurse now.

Mirna Sevilla Romero

She lives in Altagracia and is the
director of the famous Ruben Dario School. When Kim and Ela came
to the
|
island the first time, they met her on the ferry and later
stayed at her house. She has hosted many people from Bainbridge
over the last 20 years. She continues to be very active in the
effort to bring very good education to kids all over Ometepe.

Maria Estela Alverez Gonzalez

She is our Scholarship Coordinator
on the Island. She got involved when she herself was chosen as a
scholarship student. She studied English and became an English
teacher on the Ometepe. She came to Bainbridge for the
|
first time
in a delegation of English teachers. She has been involved with
the organization since her days as a student and now is part of
our staff.

Jose Antonio Pereira Vega

He was a former scholarship student
and he got his degree in Computer Systems. He is from Merida
but works in Managua now because it is difficult to find jobs
on Ometepe Island. He is an excellent friend and he wants to
continue the relationship with BOSIA and his sponsors.

Santos López

Current president of Carlos Diaz Cajina Cooperative. He lives in Balgue and he is a partner in cooperative where they work together to grow organic coffee, Cafe Oro de Ometpe. He has a wife and three daughters. One daughter is |
a BOSIA scholarship student. Santos has a very close friendship with the people from Bainbridge. His house has been a warm homestay for the friends from BI.

Quenia Chavez

Quenia is a civic leader from Sacramento. Her home and her family have always enjoyed the visits of Bainbridge people. Her house is in front of the Lake Nicaragua, 4 kilometers from the main road. Sacramento is a small town next to Los | Angeles. Many students from Bainbridge know this lovely place. Quenia works with the organization called Las Monjas, The Nuns. She has worked in the different projects of the Sacramento Primary School. She has a daughter and a son (he is in the University now). Her husband sometimes travels to Costa Rica to get work.

Rosario Cajina

She is from San Pedro and she is an
active woman who always is working and attending her people in the
community. She works in the Ometepe-Alemania Project. She is a
well known nurse and midwife in her town. She did not
|
study formally but she is very intelligent and likes to care for the women and children in
her town. Her family could be very proud for her qualities.

Maydelin Tapia Aleman

She lives in Moyogalpa and is daugher of teacher Berta Olivia Aleman who visited with the 15th anniversary delegation. She is a scholarship student who is finishing her career now. Her sponsor has been the "Rotary Club"
| from Bainbridge Island. She studies very hard to get excellent grades. She likes her carrer (Law - Legal Profession). She has one sister and one brother and lives with grandmother too. Her mother is a single mother. Maydelins is looking for work to help to her mother and her sister who will go to the University next year. She is a member of the Moyogalpa Scholarship committee. She knows many people from Bainbridge too. She is a good dancer and she would like to show her abilities to you!

Alcides Flores

He is a very active man who is owner of a Restaurant-Hotel in Santo Domingo. He was the last Mayor in Altagracia.
He lives with his |
family in Santo Domingo; It is near to the Beach (this place is enchanted) His wife is the Doctor Melida Luna and they have a daughter, Alcira. Mr. Flores and his wife work in the Ometepe-Alemania Project. He is a good friend and he has a special relationship with the people from Bainbridge Island.

Marcos Cordoncillo

He is the coordinator of Commission
for Disabled Children on the island and has been working with
BOSIA for the past 5 years on many
|
projects for these kids. He
works in the Ministry of Education and helps us with all of our
education projects. Ladies, he's single!

Dora Gutierrez Tran
 |
Dora Gutierrez Tran (Dorita) is the
Sister Islands office manager in Altagracia. She has skillfully
managed all of the organization's work on Ometepe since 1998.
Dorita is also an English teacher at the secondary school in
Altagracia. She and another Ometepe English teacher traveled to
Bainbridge in 1995-96 to spend six weeks improving their language
ability. Since that visit, she has hosted dozens of Bainbridge
Islanders at her home next door to our office. She has two
children, Henrickson and Kendra.
