Help

The nilBS slide show is tuned for slow dial-up connections. The basic idea is to load the next picture while you're viewing the current one-- little or no waiting for pictures to load. Fast connections benefit too. Works best when you begin at the beginning, following the natural order.

The cockpit holds navigation controls. VCR buttons (arrow heads) carry you to first, previous, next, last, pictures.

When the mouse hovers over this menu graphic, a menu with several options pops up. Each menu item is followed by a button that brings up related help text. The menu also pops up when the `(backtick) or . (period) key is typed.

Keyboard commands: (cockpit & menu equivalents, not case-sensitive) The basic VCR controls have keyboard equivalents. Type F,P,N,L for first, previous, next, last, picture. Also, commands within the menu have keyboard equivalents: S for slide show (where pictures flip automatically) and T for table of contents (usually thumbnails) are particularly convenient.

Many commands toggle. For example, clicking Table of Contents in the menu (or typing T) will show the table of contents when it's hidden or hide it when it's visible.

For going through the pictures, the numeric keypad is even easier: instead of F,P,N,L try 7,4,6,1 with NumLock on. It sounds arbitrary, but these keys are also labeled Home, left-arrow, right-arrow, End.

In general, any button or menu option where a word has a bold character, can be activated by typing that character (e.g. T for Table of Contents). Keyboard commands for the main pop-up menu work when the menu is hidden or visible.

(Keyboard commands do not work for Netscape running on Linux.)

Shade Grown Coffee

Ashley Parkinson and Bill Bradlee from the Northwest Shade Coffee Campaign visited Latin America in 2000 studying shade and sun coffee. They created a presentation on the subject as a gift for Finca Magdalena, the Ometepe coffee cooperative where they spent part of their time. We've reproduced it here.

Ashley and Bill's slide show is brought to you by Café Oro de Ometepe.

This presentation was funded by a grant from the Jessica Jennifer Cohen Foundation to the Northwest Shade Coffee Campaign.
